Influenza is a viral disease that affects both mammals and birds. Fever, cough, chills etc. are its common symptoms. It can also lead to pneumonia in serious cases. - A syrup made of dandelion, honey and brown sugar mixed in the right quantities can help in reducing the ill-effects of flu. It is especially useful in soothing the irritation caused in the throat due to coughing.
- Taking hot drinks at regular intervals has proved to be an effective remedy to any ailment of the throat. Some of the hot drinks are effective against fever as well.
- Inhalation of steam is another way of reducing cough. Similarly steam baths can help in reducing the fatigue, you may experience.
- Increasing the intake of vitamin C by eating citrus fruits, lemon etc. will help in strengthening the immune system against flu.
You should also remember that the recent influenza virus – H5N1 that causes bird flu, also leads to the cytokine storms within the body. Many of the flu remedies described above, may trigger cytokine storms. Hence, if you are in doubt regarding the type of virus that has infected the patient, you should first confirm the same from the doctor, before trying out these remedies.
